Cooling in Mesa

Three local facts that shape every job

Each comes from a public source, and each changes what a repair or a new system involves here.

Tall saguaro cacti in desert scrub below the cliffs of a rugged mountain, with a tan stucco house at the edge of the frame
  • A five-month hot season

The National Weather Service’s 1991 to 2020 averages for Phoenix put the first 100 degree day of the year on May 2 and the last on October 5. The normal July high at the East Mesa station is 105.9 degrees and the normal July low is 78.9, so a system gets little rest even at night.

  • A simple permit rule for replacements

The City of Mesa says you do not need a permit to replace an air conditioning unit if the new one uses the same or less electricity as the old one. If the electrical connections change, a construction permit is required.

  • More than one electric utility

The City of Mesa runs its own electric utility for more than 18,000 customers in about 5.5 square miles centered on downtown. SRP’s Cool Cash rebates are for SRP customers only, so the name on your bill decides what you can claim.

Repair

What air conditioning repair in Mesa involves

Most air conditioning breakdowns in the East Valley trace back to heat, dust and long run times. Electrical parts sit in a metal cabinet in the sun. Dust coats the outdoor coil and fills the drain line. A motor that runs for much of every day through a five-month hot season wears faster than one in a milder place.

That is why we do not price a repair from a symptom. The same warm air at the vent can come from a filter, a small electrical part, a refrigerant leak or a compressor. Our diagnostic inspection covers refrigerant levels, the condenser and evaporator coils, capacitors, electrical connections, airflow and the condensate drain line, and it looks for the root cause as well as the part that gave out.

The repairs we do most

  • Failed capacitors and contactors that keep the outdoor unit from starting.
  • Refrigerant leaks and low charge.
  • Condenser fan and blower motor failures.
  • Frozen evaporator coils.
  • Clogged condensate drain lines and water leaks.
  • Thermostat faults, compressor problems and electrical faults.

If your system is down now, our AC repair in Mesa, AZ page lists the four checks to make before you call. For an explanation of each part and how it fails, read air conditioning repair in Mesa.

Emergency repairs

We handle emergency repairs, and we are straight with you about scheduling. We do not promise a time we cannot keep. Our office hours are Monday to Friday, 8 AM to 5 PM.

Call us and describe what the system is doing.

Repair or replace

When we recommend a repair, and when we do not

If a repair makes sense, we say so. We raise replacement when repairs have become frequent, or when a single major repair costs close to what a new unit would. Then we put both options side by side and you decide.

A new system is sized from the house: square footage, insulation, windows, sun exposure, ceiling height and the condition of the ductwork. We install to manufacturer specifications and local building codes, and we check the refrigerant charge, airflow and electrical readings before we leave. Estimates for new systems are free.

Heating and more

Heating, heat pumps, mini splits and tune-ups

Cooling is most of the work in Mesa, but not all of it. We repair gas furnaces, electric furnaces and heat pumps, install heat pumps and install and repair ductless mini splits for garages, casitas, additions and rooms the central system never served well. Most mini splits need a dedicated circuit, and because we are an electrical contractor too, that is part of the same job.

A tune-up from us covers air conditioners, heat pumps and furnaces: we clean the indoor and outdoor coils, check the major components, confirm the temperature split, check refrigerant pressure, make sure condensation drains and change the filter. We also offer a yearly maintenance agreement with two visits.

The whole range is set out on our HVAC in Mesa, AZ page.
